Canterbury Design and Construction - Our History

Canterbury Construction, Inc. was started in May of 1965 by Sam and Clare Canterbury, and is still, today, a family owned and operated business that takes extreme pride in the quality of the homes they build.  Sam is still at the helm as the Managing Partner, and, along with his sons, Michael Canterbury, as the General Manager, and Samuel Canterbury, as the Superintendent, ensures that quality and attention to detail remain at the forefront of our business practices.  We changed our name in 2005 to Canterbury Design and Construction to reflect the full range of services we provide - we are a full-service design and build firm.  We have taken many home designs from the idea stage (many were initially sketched on napkins and 3x5 note cards) to completed homes for our clients, and we can do the same for you.  Canterbury Design and Construction has designed and built many custom homes, ranch houses, guest quarters, metal barns, custom garages (or "man caves"), schools, office buildings, and a three-story motel.  We have even built tree houses for our clients' grandchildren!

Canterbury Design and Construction works extremely closely with our clients to achieve the custom homes and buildings of their desires, dreams, and their lifestyles.  We have had numberous clients come back to us time after time to build additional homes and projects for them and their family members.

Of special note:  We have NEVER lost a single structure which we designed and built to any of the many hurricanes and storms that have pummeled the Texas coast since 1965.  We always strive to incorporate the very best proven design criteria for our wooden structures as well as our concrete and steel structures.  We have a video, filmed by the proud owner of a home that was designed and built by Canterbury Design and Construction, of Hurricane Celia, taken from inside his residence.  He stayed in his home throughout the hurricane and was able to capture the Category 3 storm in progress.  Sam Canterbury filmed the area after the storm and documented the devastation of the majority of the homes in the area; however, all of the homes that had been designed and built by Canterbury Design and Construction remained completely unscathed by the sustained winds of 120 to 130 mph and wind gusts that had reached up to 160 miles per hour.  This video shows exactly why we are dedicated to building the best possible structures for your projects.
